The current Arbutus Shopping Centre site is undergoing a redesign. The new development is planned to be a complete community. It will have a broad mix of uses that will allow people to enjoy the services and amenities of the neighbourhood without having to drive anywhere. Uses will include local shops and services, coffee shops, a restaurant, Safeway, a liquor store, a financial institution, offices such as medical/dental, a studio, commercial space and storage. A mix of housing types and densities will be provided that will include housing for senior citizens, rental housing units and a variety of market condominium units from townhouses to rooftop apartments. Arbutus exceeds the City requirement that 20% of the housing units be affordable through a mix of seniors and rental housing.
